The mid-years of Golden Years, from the 1930's to the early 1960's. This era followed the Meriam Report of the late 1920's, where the curriculum was enhanced with strong academics, post graduate programs including working scholarships to attend the local Jr. College in /Arkansas City, KS.
The final years, form the 1960's through the closing of Chilocco in 1980; however, the history making continues as the Chilocco National Alumni Association continues to function and is keeping the school spirit alive and the memories cherished as will be seen at each annual alumni reunion.
Joe graduated from Chilocco in the mid 1930's then served in the military. The boys made bows and arrows at Chilocco to entertain themselves, but he kept his want for archery alive, eventually becoming a World Games Champion prior to the sport being a part of the Olympics. His wife was also a champion archer.
